Russia Update!

In light of the ongoing events in Ukraine, we wanted to send out an update and reassure you that we are all safe.  We are in the middle of our second session here at Iskra and loving our time with the kids. With plenty of games and activities each day, we have been keeping ourselves super busy.  It has been inspiring to see how we have been able to bond with the children despite the cultural and linguistic barriers between us.  In fact, throughout camp we have been emphasizing international acceptance and love.  One of our songs, which we will be presenting with the kids on parent’s day, is “Love in Any Language,” a song about overcoming international differences and communicating through the universal language of love.

Here at camp we are almost completely removed from most of the outside world, including any of the conflict in Ukraine.  We have been kept up to date by Kathryn and we have seen no negative impact from the situation in Ukraine here at camp during our interactions with the Russians.  Kathryn, who has developed an excellent understanding of the Russian people through her years of service here, has been monitoring the events since the start of our trip and is confident in our safety here in Russia. One of our team members always says that “the safest place to be is wherever God wants you.”  We all feel completely safe and know that God has us here for a reason and will continue to protect us during our travels.

Please continue praying for us as well as for the countless lives that are being impacted by the events in Ukraine.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!
